Taiwan citizens who travel to Ireland for tourism, visiting relatives, short-term study, or business are now allowed to enter the country visa-free for stays of up to 90 days, effective July 1. Ireland is the second country in Europe, after the United Kingdom, to grant visa-free entry to Taiwanese. Taiwan has reciprocated by extending the visa-free length of stay in Taiwan for Irish citizens to 90 days. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs points out that holders of Republic of China (Taiwan) passports who travel to Ireland for non-work purposes need no longer apply for a visa ahead of time. When they enter Ireland, however, they need to produce documentation such as hotel reservations, return airline ticket, proof of financial ability, letter of invitation, proof of insurance, and local contact. The immigration officer handling the case will grant the traveler a period of stay up to 90 days, depending on need. Those who intend to stay longer than 90 days will be required to apply for a certificate of registration before the expiration of their original length of stay.
